I Tried Two Of Target's 'Collection' Wines. Here's What Happened.
A few months ago, Target announced they’d be releasing their own line of wines - and wine lovers everywhere rejoiced. Not only could you shop at Tar-jay for the things you don’t (always) need, but you could get good California wine for the low just a few aisles over!
Now that I’ve moved back to Chicago, I’ve found myself in Target more frequently to pick up items to spruce up my room. During my last trip, I perused the wine and spirits section and snagged two bottles from Target’s wine line called “The Collection”. Hailing from the Appellations of California, both the Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Grigio are affordable ($9.99), have cute label designs, and quite delicious.
Peep my review of both below - cheers!
’The Collection’ 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon
On the nose: Smoky peppercorn, tobacco, blackberry, and violet
On the palate: Dark cherry, bold yet firm tannins - incredibly JAMMY with notes of blackfruit, clover, and currant
Other notes: 14.5% ALC, so it’ll definitely give you a buzz. This Cab Sauv is easy drinking with mild acidity/
Pairs well with: Grilled chicken, steak tacos, and barbecued pork.
’The Collection’ 2018 Pinot Grigio
On the nose: Very mineral-y, fresh lemon, lime and honeysuckle.
On the palate: Honeydew, citrus, and white peach. It’s got a cute, lingering finish that shows its medium bodied and fruity.
Other notes: 12% ALC. Very pale yellow with a few bubbles that show off the wine’s effervescence. This is the type of wine I’d like to call a “porch pounder” - meaning that its easy drinking and perfect to enjoy with friends on a nice summer night.
Pairs well with: Seafood, grilled veggies, and pasta salads.
