A Salute To The OGs (Episode Four)
I was gone for a minute, now I’m back with the jump off! (Well, sorta.)
This week, I’m saluting two grape varietals that I consider the real MVPs – Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Take a look at my review of two really yummy wines below, and let me know what you think! Catch the wine notes right after the video :)
WINE #1 - 2018 Bread & Butter Chardonnay; RETAIL: $12.99
SEE: Deep lemon
SMELL: Tropical fruit notes (pineapple), a little musty/sweaty (lactic), something like steel…minerality! Medium intensity with pronounced secondary aromas - toasted butter; and tertiary aromas - honey, gasoline, vanilla, almond
TASTE: Medium acidity - that could be from the melon primary flavors, not too bad of a finish - it’s long and creamy! Oak is absolutely present, along with subtle sweetness from honeysuckle.
PAIRS WELL WITH: Crab cakes, broiled or baked salmon, or baked chicken
WINE #2: 2016 DXM Cabernet Sauvignon; RETAIL: $8.99
SEE: Deep garnet
SMELL: Black cherry, cedar/wet forest floor, black pepper/smoke, oak, vanilla, green pepper, the sweetness of dried fruit
TASTE: Dry red wine, soft to medium tannins, medium finish, pretty easy drinking, black cherry and blackberry, dustiness from the earth.
PAIRS WELL WITH: Roasted chicken, braised beef ribs, or a juicy burger.
